The Guide
a Savannah Photo Timeline
How I would build a wedding day here so your portraits land in the best light and you still get to enjoy your people.
Start With Sunset
Look up sunset for your month and work backward. That one number decides almost everything else on the page.
A Sample Day With A First Look
This is for a 5:30 PM ceremony in a month when sunset falls near 7:30 PM. Your venue and your planner may change it, and they should.
| Time | What Happens |
|---|---|
| 1:30 PM | I arrive. Dress, rings, invitation and details by a window |
| 2:00 PM | Hair and makeup finishing, the two of you getting ready |
| 3:15 PM | First look somewhere quiet |
| 3:30 PM | Portraits together, in shade |
| 4:00 PM | Wedding party |
| 4:30 PM | Tucked away before guests arrive |
| 5:30 PM | Ceremony |
| 6:00 PM | Family formals, right at the ceremony spot |
| 6:30 PM | Cocktail hour for your guests. Twenty quiet minutes in the last light for you |
| 7:15 PM | Grand entrance, dinner, toasts, dancing |
Things That Are Different In Savannah
- Travel takes longer than the map says. One way streets wrap around the squares, and trolleys and carriages share them with you. Add a cushion to every move.
- Public spots are public. On a Saturday in spring you will share Forsyth Park. Go early or go on a weekday if a location really matters to you.
- Permits are real. A ceremony in a square or park is not the same as walking through it for photos. Your planner or the City can tell you what your date requires.
- Wormsloe and Tybee are drives. If you want the oak avenue or the dunes, plan for them as their own block of time, or do them on another day as a session.
- Keep a rain plan for portraits, too. Covered porches and big windows downtown make it easy, and I know where they are.
Family Formals
Send me a written list ahead of time, with names. Ask one loud friend or a relative who knows everybody to round people up. That alone can save you fifteen minutes of your cocktail hour.

Your Date
Tell me where you are getting married and I will tell you how I would photograph it.
